Seasong

About the property
Seasong is an absolute beachfront house in Northland situated in a picturesque horseshoe bay with superb and uninterrupted sea views of the offshore islands and reefs. The comfortable and practical family beach house was designed and built by the owner 15 years ago and reflects his artistic talent and eye for aesthetics.

The master bedroom has a king bed with a wonderful view of the bay and an en-suite with shower and toilet. A second bedroom has a queen bed while the third bedroom as four bunks. There is a separate toilet, large laundry, and family bathroom (with large vanity and shower). Wi-Fi is throughout the house.

Sheltered front and rear decks with comfortable outdoor furniture provide all weather options, with the rear deck featuring views to the bush clad hills.

The very large flat section of lawn and boundary native trees, provides plenty of off-street parking and room for boats or toys. Fishers can surf cast while sitting on the front deck.

About the location

Oakura Bay is a beautiful horseshoe-shaped beach, almost a kilometer long, adjacent to the deep-water entrance to the Whangaruru harbour. Located about halfway between Whangarei and the Bay of Islands, Oakura is a short journey from the Old Russell Road and approximately 45 minutes north of Whangarei on a fully tar sealed road. Surrounded by native bush and forested hills, the main settlement consists of permanent and holiday homes. Facilities include boat access, a well-stocked store, fuel pump, and takeaways. Northland’s subtropical climate is well known, however Oakura has its own micro-climate due to the adjacent hills.

Activities:
Oakura Bay offers plenty to see and do. The sheltered bay is generally very safe to swim at all year round.
On a calm day, many enjoy kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, skiing, boating and other activities. The bay and its surrounds, along with Whangaruru Harbour, are popular spots for fishing and diving, with plentiful bounty to be had from the sea. When there is an easterly swell, Oakura offers both a right- and left-hand break suitable for surfers of varying ability.

There are also several stunning coastal walks. You can either head north to Ohawini Bay, continuing up the Whangaruru Harbour as far as the tide will allow; or alternatively head south making your way around the rocks or walking down a track from the top of Rapata Road. Continue along the rocky coastline with small sheer cliffs, past the rocky coves and secluded beaches and you will find the popular mermaid rock pool. A number of native Pohutukawa trees dominate much of the coastal banks, with a spectacular display of red flowers in the early summer.

The historic town of Russell and gateway to the famous Bay of Islands is an easy, scenic drive north of around 45 minutes.
Alternatively, drive south for approximately 15 minutes to the nearby Helena Bay Café & Gallery. The Gallery sells art and sculpture featuring local and national artists and has an adjacent café.
