The perfect place to relax and unwind after a days exploring
Our lovely spacious bungalow is situated on peaceful private lane leading to our beautiful village church in the heart of Skellingthorpe village.
We are just 5 minutes drive by car or 20 mins by bike from Lincoln. Walking or cycling along a bespoke route which takes you directly into the stunning hidden gem of the City of Lincoln with is awesome Medieval Cathedral viewed majestically from miles around.
Just across the square is Lincoln Castle with one of only 4 copies of Magna Carta, and all linked by the iconic Steep Hill, which is lined with independent shops, fabulous pubs and cute tea and coffee shops, alongside some great places to eat. Steep Hill links upper Lincoln with even more Roman architecture and the more modern shopping/ eating facilities in lower Lincoln, meandering down the University quarter.
Our home was fully renovated to a very high standard in 2017, with the addition of a fabulous oak framed south facing lounge area, with huge bifold doors opening onto a secure child and dog friendly garden. There is a new large screen TV, a bluetooth music system, ample and comfy seating and a wood burning stove as a cosy focal point in the winter.
The lounge area links to a spacious kitchen/ dinner. We have a full range of modern appliances; dishwasher, fridge freezer, washing machine, neff fan oven and gas hob. You will find everything you need from preparing snacks to banquets.
From the kitchen dinning room is the hallway leading to a lovely family bathroom, with roll top bath and separate large shower. Off the same hallway there is a twin room, a double room with built in wardrobe, and the Master bedroom with ensuite wet-room.
There is a small study area with loads of info about places to see locally and across wider Lincolnshire and also a good selection of books to share and swap.
Our private lane only has 6 properties and ends at the pretty church yard of St Lawrence, with its small church primary school to the far side. Our lane is central to the village it is a short walk to the pub, the CO-OP and bus stop, it is very peaceful and quiet, although to will hear a bit of children`s chatter as they go to and from school.
The house is centrally heated, and has a combination boiler for instant hot water.
There is ample parking for upto 3 cars.
We are pleased to be dog friendly and we have some super walks straight from the door especially into Skellingthorpe`s `OldWood`. We regularly walk to nearby Doddington Hall though the woods, and we also walk into Lincoln along the Sustrans path, finishing the walk along the canal side towpath and into the Brayford Pool, the historic heart of Lincoln`s industrial heritage, now transformed into the vibrant University quarter of Lincoln.
Lincolnshire is named `Bomber County" with its strong links to the RAF both past and present, nearby RAF Waddington is the home of the Red Arrows and they will often be seen rehearsing over Skellingthorpe, The Battle of Britain Memorial flight is based at RTAF Connngsby and The Dambusters Pub in Scampton is well worth a visit.
Our main home is just up the lane from the bungalow, and we also have another listing on this site at Chester. The Chester apartment has received many positive reviews and we have met so many lovely people we have decided to offer this additional home from home. We are potentially open to the idea of a split site stay over both properties, so please do take a look.
About the location
Skellingthorpe is 4 miles from Lincoln, its ideally placed to explore some of the big Northern Cities, York and Leeds are 50 miles, Nottingham is 30 miles, and the Derbyshire and the magical Peak District National Park is 40 miles away. But there is so much nearer to home, we have the truly unspoiled Lincolnshire Coast with the new National Trust reserve at Sandilands, and the famous seal colony at Donna Nook. But also have the traditional bucket and spade experience of Skegness!
There is a train station in central Lincoln, which offer direct trains to London under 2 hours, and another branch station in the next village of Saxilby.
Sadly our village foody pub is closed for refurbishment, but there are loads of great country pubs nearby, and we still have a great pub open, offering gourmet food wagons regularly.
