House

Our house is in a small road tucked away with four other properties just a stones throw from the waterfront and restaurants and seafood outlets.
We moved on the Island to this smaller property and have renovated the living area creating an interesting multi use kitchen and cosy seated area overlooking the garden and the new garden/art room . We are surrounded by trees and wildlife, birds and squirrels .
The lounge has television with Netflix and has a private, very sunny outlook.
Upstairs there are two double bedrooms with eaves and a bathroom with a large shower.
Guests are welcome to use the art room for drawing or painting and use of a new electric piano. We also have a beach hut on the Esplanade sited on the beach where you can swim at high tide and use the raft for a breather. The village centre is a short walk from the house with a Co-op and a small Tesco , library , art gallery art shops, eateries and a museum . The church hosts concerts and the community centre just about every activity.
The house allows you access to beach walks, marshes and sea wall and hidden alleyways .

About the location

Mersea Island is a small island joined by a causeway to the mainland. It is tidal which means at high tides it can be cut off ! We keep an eye to the tides and check them if planing to go ‘off island ‘. There are two villages West and East. West Mersea is a thriving lively community with the most clubs and activities in the county . Chefs love to visit and taste and cook seafood for National magazine and newspaper articles . The village has good shops , coffee and tea cafes , restaurants and amenities . There is a bus service to East and our nearest main town Colchester , the oldest recorded city that hosts the renowned Oyster Feast. The Island is rural and mainly farmed between the two villages . There are wonderful walks through the countryside and sea walls with outstanding sea views to surrounding villages. The backwaters are full of birdlife with Brent Geese returning every year and sea birds nesting ,Oystercatchers , Terns and our famous little Dabchicks.

The Island is famous for Oysters and sailing and salt marshes. Trains to London run frequently from Colchester and take 55mins.Picturesque Dedham , Constable Country is a short drive away ,also Gainsborough’s museum and house.

There are many charming and interesting old towns and villages surrounding the Island that make a good day out
