Forest Highland Escape
Our home is a three-bedroom bungalow in a private garden, just off a private track. We have some neighbours on the track who are lovely and quiet.
Our house backs onto a field that overlooks the Cairngorm mountains. Out of the front garden you can walk straight into Balnagowan woods, where there are beautiful forest trails. There is parking in our driveway and a car port.
The house has two double bedrooms, one with a king-size bed and the other a standard double. The third bedroom is a kids’ room, currently set up with a standard cot but this could be converted to a toddler bed upon request.
There is a living room with dining table and a large conservatory with wood burning stove. The house also has central heating but it’s very nice to sit with a fire sometimes.
Full kitchen with everything you would expect, plus a bean-to-cup coffee machine and dishwasher. In the porch we have a washing machine and dryer.
There is a shower room with toilet and a full bathroom.
We have great WiFi and a smart TV with streaming services available.
We have a dog (who wouldn’t be at home during swap!) but just for awareness of anyone with allergies to pet hair.
In process of uploading all photos of home, working around the baby!
About the location
Our home is located in Nethy Bridge - “the forest village” within the Cairngorm National Park of the Scottish Highlands. Village life is peaceful and picturesque, with lots of forest trails to explore. Nethy Bridge is located on the Speyside Way if you fancy walking or cycling this route. We can leave two adults’ bikes for your use. We also have two sea kayaks that we use on the lochs, including buoyancy aids. You would need to be confident with getting these on and off a roof rack to use these.
The village has a shop, butcher/delicatessen, hotel bar/restaurant and a thriving dog-friendly cafe. There are tennis courts by the community centre and a golf club just by the house. Grantown is a ten-minute drive and Aviemore is twenty minutes away, where you can find supermarkets, restaurants and pubs as well as lots of interesting independent shops. Inverness is 45 minutes away and is the nearest big city. Buses will take you to these destinations but I would recommend a car to get the most from the national park.
Nethy is a great spot for those who love the outdoors or nature. There are lots of family friendly activities too, such as the Highland Wildlife Park, Landmark Forest Adventure Park, The Cairngorm Reindeer Herd, TreeZone Aviemore and lots of fun activities in Rothiemurchus, plus snow sports and of course hiking around our beautiful lochs and mountains.
Arrival - we have a lockbox. The nearest airport is Inverness, about 45 minutes away, but other options are Edinburgh and Aberdeen, about 2/2.5 hours away.
We are excited to do our first home exchange. We are looking for a week or two in April and are open to all locations. Please message me if you have any questions at all.
