Innisfree, Achnamara
Our modern two storey home has a traditional feel whilst benefitting from underfloor heating, heat pump, solar panels and two wood burners. We built Innisfree 15 years ago, and have recently completed an additional extension with sunroom to bring ‘the outside in’. The house is light and spacious with three large living areas, two double bedrooms (one en-suite) and further bath and shower rooms. We both work from home and the two small office rooms will be closed off during a home exchange.
Innisfree is our full time home, all rooms are furnished to a high standard, and is it well equipped with most mod-cons including washing machine and drying area, dishwasher, coffee machine and freezer. There is a large smart TV, music system and wifi throughout the house (phone signal is poor, but wifi calling works well).
We have a mature, secluded garden with patios backing onto a natural woodland and a stream, so although we don’t have sea views, we look out over garden and woodland and are a very short walk from the head of the loch, where we can access the water from a rough slip and pier.
The house is set back from the quiet, single track road and has a front garden and hedge separating it from the minimal traffic. There is ample driveway parking and an EV car charger if required.
About the location
We are based in the small coastal forestry village of Achnamara on Loch Sween, in Argyll, west coast Scotland. Surrounded by woodlands, sea and freshwater lochs, we have nature on our doorstep and water access just a few hundred meters away. We live alongside otters, red squirrels, ospreys, pine martens, beavers and eagles.
Within walking and cycling distance you will find beaches, temperate rainforest, hill walking, sea views, Castle Sween, Crinan Canal, and Kilmartin Museum. There is more to explore in a day by car including the Mull of Kintyre, Oban, and the Isles of Gigha, Kerrera, Jura and Mull.... sea trips to view sealife, or to the islands are close at hand.
Our community is friendly and welcoming, with an active Village Hall that draws people in from surrounding villages. Just across the loch, Tayvallich, with a gastro pub, community shop and café, is an hour’s cycle or kayak away (20 mins drive) and Lochgilphead, a similar distance in the opposite direction, is our small town with all basic shopping and facilities.
Fill your days with walking, cycling, kayaking, swimming, wildlife and bird spotting, or soaking up the ancient culture of Dalriada with standing stones and cup and ring marks.
