Traditional home, modern architecture, stunning views of the western isles!

Our home is a traditional Skye whitehouse, restored and renovated in modern farmhouse style. Nestled in the north-west of Skye at the heart of Waternish, it's a relaxing island hideaway for up to 6 people, featuring stunning views across the peninsula to the Outer Hebrides.

The house features three bedrooms and three bathrooms, all with fitted showers. One bedroom has a superking size bed, one has a king size bed, and the other features two single beds.

The open plan downstairs living area sweeps past a cosy woodburner with adjacent seating into the rear kitchen extension. This is via a pair of Harris Tweed curtains which can be closed to provide privacy between the two areas.

The kitchen is equipped with a new Rangemaster oven and has black granite worktops throughout. We are keen chefs, so high quality kitchenware and crockery is provided.

Waternish was recently connected to Fibre broadband and so the house features download speeds of up to 150mb for home workers or leisurely surfing/streaming of the internet. Wifi connectivity is strong throughout the house.

Outside, the raised picnic table area provides panoramic views down to Stein below and northwest to the Outer Hebrides, which are clearly visible on the horizon when weather allows. This aspect also allows for beautiful sunsets year round as well as a dramatic outlook to sea no matter what the weather!

About the location

Skye is Scotland's premier tourist destination, famous for its incredible landscapes and vibrant food scene. You definitely need a car to explore the island fully, but as long as you have a vehicle our place is a great location from which to visit all Skye's major tourist sights.

If you don't fancy driving much, just a 5-minute stroll away is Stein, a conservation village which was designed originally by Thomas Telford as a model fishing village at the end of the 18th century. Stein boasts the renowned Loch Bay Restaurant, the only Michelin-starred restaurant on Skye. Along the pretty terrace, you will also find Skye's oldest pub, the Stein Inn, which serves good food and local ales.

Our area of Waternish is home to a wealth of beautiful shorelines to walk along, as well as forestry walks where you can sometimes view amazing wildlife including golden eagles, sea eagles, seals, dolphins, whales, otters and corncrakes. It also has several popular visitor attractions including the 5-star Skyeskyns, Scotland’s only traditional sheepskin tannery and showroom.

Groceries and restaurants can be found in the nearby village of Dunvegan, a 15-minute drive away, or in the town of Portree, which is 30 minutes by car and has lots of local amenities including a swimming pool.

Roughly 40 minutes' drive to the East are the Old Man of Storr, the Quiraing and the Fairy Glen. 40 minutes' drive West will take you to Talisker Bay, its distillery and the Fairy Pools. Nearby we have Dunvegan Castle, The Coral Beach, and Waternish Point which offers panoramic views of the Outer Hebrides.

Skye is a nature lover's paradise, and great for anyone into hiking or climbing. When the weather is good it's one of the most beautiful places on earth; even when it's bad, it's still stunning. After many winters here we can attest that there are few things more cosy than enjoying a dram of whisky in front of the fire while watching a storm unfurl across the bay! Whatever the season, our house is the perfect place to slow down and unwind.
