Large Victorian Villa 5 minutes to the beach and South West Coast Path
We live in a very large Victorian house that is 5 minutes walk to the sea and with the South West Coast path literally out of our back garden gate. The house backs onto 'The Torrs' a series of hills and cliffs that the Coast path heads along. But we are also only 5 minutes walk from the centre of town where there are cafes, shops, pubs and restaurants. The Tunnels beach is at the end of our road. The pretty harbour is a 15 minute walk.
The house has 3 large double bedrooms with beds with good mattresses. There are 2 kids bedrooms which both have single beds. We also have 2 additional single beds that can be placed where-ever needed - every room has space for them. We have a small shower room with a good electric shower so never runs out of hot water. And a large family bathroom with bath ( no shower) and a downstairs loo. There is a very large living room and a large well equipped kitchen and dining room area at the back of the house and a utility room with washing machine and dryer. There is also a huge back storeroom that houses all our outside gear - bodyboards, surfboard, buckets and spades, balls, beach games, bikes. We've got a brand new boiler so the hot water and heating is really efficient and there is plenty of it.
The house is up a steep drive and so is not suitable for anyone with mobility or access issues or anyone with very young kids as it has a huge staircase that it is not possible to put gates up on.
We have a darts board and a very large selection of board games. There is a TV with netflix and disney plus. There is also a nintendo switch with a small selection of games.
The house has its own drive with space for 2 cars and there is free parking on the road outside too.
About the location
We moved to Ilfracombe from London 4 years ago. The landscape, the sea and the wilderness is what drew us, and the area has some of the most beautiful walks and beaches in the country in our opinion! The north coast is rugged and rocky and the West coast which is 15 min drive has huge sandy bays which are big enough that you can find a quiet spot even in mid summer. For the adventurous there is a secret beach only 5 minutes walk from the house which is a steep climb down a path but Ilfracombe also has a number of beaches including the privately owned Tunnels beach and tidal sea pool at the end of our road and Hele Bay where there is kayak and paddleboard hire when the sea allows.
The big sandy beaches of Woolacombe, Croyde and Saunton Sands are all a quick drive way (15-30 mins) and the area is now the UK's first official world surfing reserve.
We've got loads of favourite walks and secret beaches we love to visit and can give you the low down! It is a walkers paradise with so much to choose from. We never tire of the coast path and there are plentiful varied walks from our doorstep. But the inland areas are also amazing - rolling countryside and greenery and beautiful river valleys and woodlands. Exmoor is less than 30 mins drive.
The town itself has everything you need and nothing is very far away. It has a cinema, theatre, museum, small aquarium, swimming pool and of course the harbour with its boats to Lundy Island, and fishing trips and cruises. Lidl is a 5 minute walk and there is a big Tescos 5 minute drive up the hill.
