Medieval House on the Olchon Brook under Black Hill

As its name suggests, Glandwr, sits on the bright waters of the Olchon Brook in the heart of the valley under Black Hill - of Bruce Chatwin fame - just off Offa’s Dyke on the eastern flank of Bannau Brycheiniog, which was known as the Brecon Beacons National Park until it recently reclaimed its Welsh title.

The farmhouse was built in the 1490’s and is set in 12 acres of meadows either side of the Olchon Brook. There is garden with a wildlife pond and views to the Red Daren and Hatterraal Hill. Swallows, moorhen, heron, dippers and otters thrive here as well as frogs, newts, wagtail and gold crest.

Adjacent to the farmhouse is a two bedroom cottage which may also be available as well as a barn where logs are kept and some of our chicken flock sleep.

About the location

The Olchon Valley is a remote verdant valley with spectacular views from Black Hill and Offa’s Dyke, which are both a walk from the doorstep. It is on the edge of Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons National Park) and therefore perfect for wider ranging walks to the famous peaks and waterfalls there, such as Pen-y-Fan and Ystradfellte.

It enjoys its remote rural position, although the pretty market towns of Abergavenny and Hay-on-Wye are just half an hour away by car or 45 minutes by e-bike. There are several perfect pubs an hour’s walk away and an award-winning local shop in Longtown, 10 minutes’ drive from the house.
