A traditional Kyoto townhouse (machiya)
We renovated this traditional Kyoto townhouse, in Japanese `machiya`, about 10 years ago and lived in it for a couple of years before my work took me to Tokyo and now Singapore. We stay there as often as we can and swap / rent it for short-stay visitors at other times.

About the location
We are right in the heart of Kyoto. The nearest subway station is about a 5 minute walk away and it is a 10-15 minute level walk to the city centre. Although we are on a quiet residential street, major heritage sites such as the Gion district and Kiyomizudera are just a few minutes walk away. Kansai International Airport (KIX), the main international gateway to central Japan is a direct train (75 minutes) from Kyoto station which is about a 10 minute taxi ride from our house.
