Renovated Ottoman house in the heart of the Old Town
A simple 3 story house dating to the early 1800s located in a quiet cul de sac on the town`s ancient acropolis with Minoan Bronze Age ruins at the end of the street.
One minute walk to the old Venetian harbour/sea-front lined with restaurants, cafes and bars and in close walking distance to all of the town`s historical sites of interest, supermarkets and farmers market plus a 10 to 15 minute walk to the nearest beaches.
Perfect for one person or a couple but can accommodate up to 5 people for a long Greek island getaway!
About the location
The neighborhood, Kastelli hill, is in the centre of Chania`s Old Town and is the oldest part of town located on Chania`s ancient acropolis once fortified and with archaeological evidence from the Neolithic through to the Venetian and Ottoman periods all over the hill. For centuries, Kastelli was Chania`s mercantile and administrative centre and its wealthiest neighborhood in the Venetian and Ottoman times and was bombed by the Germans in 1941 which exposed this area`s Minoan foundations. Recent excavations on my street and nearby have found that this whole area was once the site of the Late Minoan Palace of Kydonia (as Chania was then known). So, the neighborhood is historically very important.
My house is a 1 minute walk to the old Venetian harbour-front, one of the best preserved in the Mediterranean, with restaurants, cafes and bars overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Cretan Sea. The Old Town is small and so all sites of interest, as well as supermarkets and other conveniences are all in walking distance, as are beaches.
