Victorian terraced house

Our home is a traditional English terraced house, with small gardens to front and back. The main room comprises a sitting area at the front of the house, and a dining area to the rear; there is a door to the back garden from the dining area. The kitchen and laundry/utility room were modernised about fifteen years ago, when we added a downstairs toilet and shower at the back of the house. Upstairs, there are two main double bedrooms; we keep the very small single bedroom for use by our grandchildren. The bathroom (with shower, bath and WC) was also modernised about ten years ago; there is an additional small separate WC. The two rooms in the attic are our offices. From the laundry, there is another door to the back garden, which is walled and west-facing. There is a small octagonal greenhouse, and a pergola with vines growing over it, providing shade for sitting and eating outside.

About the location

Our street is very quiet, with hardly any traffic. We are less than ten minutes` walk from the city centre, and three minutes` walk from the railway station. The city centre has a good range of shops, cafes and restaurants. Tourist attractions include the Cornwall Museum and Art Gallery, which is small but has recently been renovated; its collection of Cornish minerals is spectacular, and there is a programme of temporary art exhibitions as well as the permanent collection. The city`s pride and joy is the (Victorian gothic) cathedral, which boasts one of the country`s finest choirs. It hosts a variety of cultural events as well as its regular service schedule . The local theatre is the recently renovated and enlarged Hall for Cornwall, now officially called the Cornwall Playhouse.

Truro is located at the head of a long estuary, and there are boat trips down the river to Falmouth in summer. It is also very centrally located for exploring Cornwall`s many wonderful gardens and National Trust properties, its amazing range of beaches, and the Southwest Coast Path, a world class long-distance path that extends for about 1000 km around the entire coast of Cornwall and Devon. Truro`s transport links are good, with half hourly trains down to Penzance and `up-country` to Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol, and London; there are also half-hourly trains to Falmouth; and there is an extensive network of local buses. Newquay airport is 30 minutes away by car.
