Strathmore

We have spent the last 7 years renovating and extending our detached house to a high standard, with underfloor heating, good insulation, new bath and shower rooms, and opening it out to the large private rear garden, which has great views. It is a retirement 'do-er upper', which is now 95% done up!
It is on a very quiet street, with open fields at the bottom of the garden.
The village has good amenities, (pub, butchers, general store and station), and is nestled in the Malvern Hills AONB, facing West towards Wales.
If you want a quiet rural break, this house will suit you!
There is a very sheltered outside sitting area which is well-lit at night, and we often eat outside as it is a lovely space.

About the location

Herefordshire has the smallest population of any of the large English counties, so is ideal for a country break, and is easy to get around by car or train. It is bordered by the Black Mountains in Wales, and has the Wye Valley running through it, with easy access to Hay on Wye and Symonds Yat.
The house is situated on the slopes of the Malverns, only 20 minutes from both the M5 and the M50.
Malvern has regular RHS Shows at the 3 Counties Showground, and both Malvern (10 minutes) and Stratford (1 hour) provide great theatre. Malvern often has plays which do a warm-up week before officially opening in the West End. See www.malvern-theatres.co.uk

Hereford is 25 minutes away by car or train, and there is a mainline station to the Midlands and London right in the village. Regency Cheltenham is about 30 minutes away, and the Cotswolds about an hour, followed by Oxford about 90 minutes away.

The Malverns are ideal for people who like walking, and Herefordshire is well known for its Saxon and Norman churches, -it's hard to go on a walk without coming across one! We can give any exchange partners detailed guides and maps to unusual places which are off the beaten track. Hereford has a very attractive old town centre, including the cathedral which houses the Mappa Mundi.

Malvern itself has the feel of a Victorian spa town, -which of course it was. It still has public springs where many locals collect their drinking water. There is a modern spa which opens for day visitors with a range of spa treatments. See www.malvernspa.com
The Morgan Motor Company is in the town, and it is possible to take tours of the factory, seeing how their iconic cars are still made.

Eastnor Castle is 4 miles away and hosts many unusual events, (eg Mountain Biking championships, the National Fireworks Championships and the National Chilli Festival) and it is worth checking what is on any particular weekend. See eastnorcastle.com
