Rock House Cottage

Rock House Cottage has `probably` the best views in town yet is only a minute`s walk from the square. Like the village, our cottage is very old, staircase is steep, narrow and without handholds. It is a four-story house. The double and one single bedroom upstairs are small as are the beds which are raised high to make the most of the views, you need some agility to get in and out of bed. Main bathroom is on this floor with shower and bath. The main living floor is entered from Low Lane and has lounge with open fire and a kitchen diner with access to small, but perfectly formed garden with table, BBQ, and VIEWS. The garden is not suited to young children as there is a big drop into the neighbour’s garden. Downstairs is large double bedroom with en suite shower and toilet. Bed is also raised off the floor, we use this room as an Airbnb. From there you go down to the basement, where we store our bikes, and you can get out to the village via the neighbour’s drive.

About the location

Grassington is a quaint old village with cobbled streets and three pubs, a restaurant, two take-aways, several coffee shops and a selection of independent shops as well as a mini supermarket and a baker. It has become a very busy village and it always pays to book ahead for dining out.
It is brilliant walking country and I have created a heap of local walks from short to long, mostly starting in Grassington. We also mountain-bike and can advise on local routes.
Grassington is the setting for Darrowby, the main village in All Creatures Great and Small. We are 10 miles from Skipton where the main supermarkets are. It is about 45 minutes to Harrogate and about an hour to Leeds, York is 1 1/2 hour by car and you can get to Windemere in the Lake District in 1 1/2 hours. Family fishing in Kilnsey is 10 minutes away by car and so is horse riding in Conistone, Stumps Cross Caverns is 10 mins the other direction. The Dales are on the doorstep, and we love the remoteness and quiet, barren countryside around us, though walking along the river to the local woods is also a favourite.
