Our 1930s home is modest but very well located and comfy. Downstairs there’s an open plan living space, upstairs there are 3 double beds (one superking, one queen, one standard) and an office. The attic conversion is a proper one (real staircase, fire safety etc) but there’s not much head height.

We have an enclosed garden and our allotment is at the end of the street - you’re welcome to visit and harvest whatever we’ve currently got growing there.

Our children are adults now, so we don’t have toys for small children, but the house is safe for them.

We have a small, well-behaved and non-shedding dog who we’d like to take with us; he sometimes stays in a house with a cat so would likely be fine to cohabit with your cat or other pets.

Please note that we don’t have a bath, a dishwasher, or a TV (although we do have a TV licence, two good computers and superfast fibre broadband).

About the location

We are lucky to live on a quiet residential street close to Lancaster’s mainline train station and within a few minutes walk of our historic city centre. It’s a friendly neighbourhood, and there are lovely walks out into the countryside through our community playground, orchard and nature reserve, and along the canal and to the Lune estuary.

We have good public transport links by train and bus to get further into the countryside: local highlights include Arnside and Silverdale AONB, the Lune Valley, Forest of Bowland, and the limestone landscapes around Hutton Roof. A little further afield are day trips to the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, and Howgills. For cycling we have car-free cycle routes to Morecambe (good for bird-watching and beaches) and south and north along the river and the canal, as well as truly excellent cycling on the lanes of north Lancashire, south Cumbria and north Yorkshire; we have quite a few (adult) bikes and all the necessary accessories, so should be able to lend something to suit you. We love walking, running, and cycling - it’s mainly why we came and continue to live here - and would be very happy to offer advice on good routes, as well as public transport options.

Lancaster itself is a really lovely small city, with its historic castle, three museums, hill-top park, two theatres, two cinemas and a pretty good range of independent pubs and eateries, along with the usual chains. If big cities are your thing there are train lines and motorways to take you to Manchester and Liverpool, both of which have excellent museums, art galleries and masses of shops. If you want the proper English seaside experience beyond Morecambe, it’s just a short trip to Blackpool (with its Pleasure Beach theme park, water park, tower and zoo) as well as smaller coastal resorts. And if you come during May to early September you could do the famous cross bay walk, traversing Morecambe bay under the supervision of the Queen's Guide (see https://www.guideoversands.co.uk/bay-walks/).
