oceanfront luxury on the Pacific Coast

Estrella Del Mar Resort is a few kms south of Mazatlan, Mexico. (10 minutes from the airport). It is in a gated resort with infinity pools, restaurants and a championship golf course. There is even a turtle sanctuary at the south end. It is our second home so we can do non-reciprocal exchanges.

We do not exchange very often but our son is living in Brooklyn and we will be returning from a trip to Europe at the end of May. We exchanged about a year and 1/2 ago with a couple from Quebec City and they totally loved staying at our condo and experiencing the resort (Estrella Del Mar), Stone Island and Mazatlan.

The condo is right on the beach and you can hear the ocean when you go to sleep if you leave the sliding glass door ajar. You can also look right out at the waves from the master bedroom and the living room and deck. If you watch you will often see dolphins or whales not far from shore. It is a third floor condominium (that’s the top floor) with a year-round sunset view. If you like to walk the beach, golf, explore latin towns, or watch sea life-- this is a great place to come.

We love to go to Stone Island and then cross the bay into Mazatlan by foot ferry. It’s restful and beautiful that way. Then you can take a small jeep type taxi (a Pulmonia) to a gorgeous dinner, or shopping, or just to explore Historic Old Town, Mazatlan. The exchange rate is very low right now so you will get a great value.

Sound interesting? Let me know right away because we are making plans!

About the location

It is fun to explore the resort first. It is quiet and relaxing. There is poolside yoga, an aqua exercise group, and pickle-ball, tennis and golf. In addition, there is a gym at the hotel on the north end (extra daily fee). The golf course is gorgeous and has hosted the Latin America PGA championship. Other amenities include a small market, a beauty parlor, masseurs who will come to your unit with an appointment. There are two stunning restaurants in the resort; the clubhouse and the hotel restaurant.
The next adventure is a short drive to Stone Island for a day of beach play, coco locos and mexican dining on the beach. You can rent horses or go parasailing or buy from the beach vendors there.
If you want to explore Mazatlan we recommend taking the foot ferry from Stone Island and then catching a ride in a pulmonia to your goal. On the weekend the Plaza Machado is active and colorful with lots of music and dining and people watching. On the first Friday of the month there is also an artwalk. Our favorite restaurants are Topolos and The Presidio (get a reservation). David also loves to go sea fishing. He catches red snapper and grouper. Other people go bass fishing or sail fishing.
We also enjoy the historic Opera House which is actually quite intimate. We have seen memorable enactments of Angela Peralta`s life, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, and classical music performances there. It costs about $15/seat.
The shopping is great all over town but the "Golden zone" is most famous for it.
Venturing further out you can go to Playa Bruja for surfing in the summer when the waves are higher. Or you can visit El Quelite or other mountain villages.
