About the location

Shoreham-by-Sea frequently turns up these days in articles about great places to live. It sits between sea and hills (South Downs), with the river Adur running through it. The town has a small pedestrianised centre lined with cafes and home to the ancient St Mary`s Church. From our house you can walk 5 to 10 minutes into the centre then the 5 minutes across the glass sided footbridge over the river to reach the beautiful beaches. The beaches are popular with body boarders and kite surfers (on windier days). There`s a boardwalk to enjoy a stroll or you can cycle alongside the sea on cycle paths to Worthing.

You can either take a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk up to the Downs, then walk for miles with views to sea and hills. The Truleigh Hill YHA webpage gives further information.

We live 5 minutes from the train station from where you can catch a train along the coast (Brighton is 15 minutes) or to London (1 hour 15 minutes). Also within easy reach are small towns and villages of East and West Sussex, such as Lewes, Arundel and Chichester. For keen outdoor swimmers there are lidos in Saltdean (next to Brighton), Lewes and Arundel, as well as the sea of course.
