Exmoor, North Devon Cottage near Cliffs of Countisbury, Lynmouth, North Devon with fab views & woodland river and coastal walks
A spacious Exmoor, North Devon family stone cottage with three bedrooms (sleeps 6 or more in 1x emperor, 1x Super-king, and a twin and mattresses in lounge) in one of North Devon`s highest hamlets near the coastal path cliffs of Countisbury head in a quiet hamlet above Watersmeet National Trust café and the nature heaven of the ancient oak woods of the Lyn and `Lorna Doone` Valleys. Countless walks to 3 great pubs within 1 to 2 miles.
The house is awaiting renovation, but is in a fabulous spot with stunning views and amazing peace, quiet and birdlife. It has; a cosy log burner in the lounge; a small kitchen and dining room and small conservatory and gardens on three levels. Garage for small car and 1/2 parking places.
3 large private gardens with stunning far reaching rural views towards the sea at Lynmouth and Exmoor. A high sunny terrace with beautiful views across the woodlands and East Lyn Valley to enjoy whilst you eat your breakfast or BBQ.
Please note: Our house is a reasonably tidy family home, and though clean, it is not immaculate and is awaiting renovation. We will of course give it a big tidy and spring clean before the swap. There is a very large paddling pool and a large number of varied games for use, plus direct access to a Bridleway and maze of footpaths to rivers, cliffs, moors or beaches intrepid or little explorers. Perfect for cold water dippers, keen walkers - and their dogs - and those looking for a special place to unwind.
A nature lovers paradise where you can watch sheep, swallows and martins, and numerous tits and finches and woodpeckers on the birdfeeders (if you keep them loaded long enough!). Owls, bats and hawks, kestrels and kites and an occasional Osprey and we can promise you this is the closest you will ever come to a near collision with a swallow whilst you enjoy your G&T!
The house has stairs and uneven floors in places. The garden has steep banks and sometimes slippery paths and steep steps (though there is a grassy ramp to access).
About the location
The cottage is located on a high bank just above the small hamlet (5 houses) of Wilsham at the end of a dead end road and farm track within Exmoor national park. It is a very quiet and peaceful village.
Wilsham is a 15 minute walk to the Rockford Inn and the National Trusts Watersmeet Café on the stunning Lyn River. It`s less than a 10 minute drive (30 min walk) to the Staghunters inn at Brendon or the stunning sea views at the Blue Ball Inn of Countisbury.
Lynmouth harbour and the neighbouring small town of Lynton are about 15 minutes or an hours walk and have loads of great pubs, restaurants and fun things to see and do and a great retro-cinema!
The cottage is set within the Exmoor National Park. Exmoor has a landscape to take your breath away: the highest sea cliffs in England; windswept open moors with numerous deer and Exmoor ponies; deep, steep-sided, oak-lined combes with waterfalls and fast flowing rivers. The beauty and colours change through the seasons with purple heather, bluebells, foxgloves, yellow gorse and crumbling dry-stone walls, fern & bracken, green mosses and trees, Atlantic skies and white water with local surf and action sports at Lynmouth, Ilfracoombe & Woolacoombe. And then there are the villages, castles, gardens, and a huge variety of other attractions to visit and activities to watch or get involved with.
The track is suitable for most vehicles but let us know if you have a very wide camper or low sports car!
