Victoria was recently recognized as one of the top 20 tourist cities in the world, and as such, is filled with many tourist attractions. Vancouver Island is an outdoors paradise, with activities ranging from whale watching, bear watching, golf (plenty of courses), sailing, kayaking, trails , walks, hiking, private and commercial fishing trips, and a host of unusual Pacific Rim outdoor activities. Anyone even slightly interested in Gardens and Flowers, then the Butchart Gardens is an absolute must. It is one of the Wonders of North America, and should not be missed.

The City of Victoria has a Theatre, Opera, Parliament Buildings,The Butchart Gardens, Royal Museum, and all the year round events that make it so attractive. Tourism is the second largest industry behind the Government.

We also have a cottage Up Island at Horne Lake(2 hours North) that could be included as part of the package. Use of the cottage will be organized, with the family having priority for dates. However, it always works so that our exchangers have use of it. In the winter, skiing is at Mt Washington which is approx 3 hours North of Victoria. The Horne Lake cottage has easy 40-45 minute driving accessibility to Mt Washington, and can be used as a daily base for skiing.
In the Summer months, the lake provides great swimming, boating and is well stocked for trout fishing.

Victoria has easy Ferry access to Vancouver and Seattle, and overnight excursions can be easily arranged to both cities.

Car exchange is offered.

The climate is Semi Mediterranean with mild wet winters and warm dry summers.
The Pacific Ocean is very much our good neighbor.

About the location

Victoria is the Capitol of BC, but in no way compares in size to the larger city of Vancouver.

The journey from Victoria to our Cottage at Horne lake, allows you to soak up the bucolic side of the Canadian countryside. The drive over the Malahat is inspiring, and the views really do justice to the lower part of Victoria and its beautiful peninsular. Our Parliament Buildings sit overlooking the Harbor, as does the famous Empress Hotel.

The Island is actually around 250 miles long( it is longer than England) but the difference is that Vancouver Island has just about 1 million population. The island has a host of outdoor attractions, with surfing and whale watching in all ports along the island ...Hwy1).

Each season has its own Pacific coast attractions.
