C17th Cumbrian cottage

Our home is a 17th century sandstone cottage with exposed stonework, oak beams and many original features but all modern conveniences, in a tiny village near Appleby, former county town of Westmorland.

There are fantastic views of the Pennine hills from our house and garden.

Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms with double beds and sharing a "Jack & Jill"
ensuite, and 1 with 2 single beds with possibility of squeezing in an inflatable mattress on a platform bed if needed.

Downstairs we have a bathroom with bath and shower, dining room, living room and a dining kitchen which opens onto a small conservatory.

Appleby lies in the Eden Valley, an ideal location for discovering the Lake District, the Yorkshire Dales, and Scotland, all less than an hour`s drive from here. If you prefer outdoor activities there are great walks from our own door, a swimming pool and sports centre 2 miles away, and a golf course close by, plus of course water sports on the Lakes. Our nearest lake, (and in our view the most beautiful), is Ullswater, less than 30 minutes away by car.

Open to offers in UK, including local swaps, possibly with family (with prior permission of course), but usually just the two of us.....doggy visitors welcome!

We have enjoyed well over 100 home swaps, been swapping since 1975 and are responsible, careful & considerate home exchangers.

About the location

Beautiful rural area with magnificent fell views, 2 miles from Appleby, ancient county town of Westmorland. Appleby is on the scenic Settle-Carlisle railway, always a popular attraction for visits to the Yorkshire Dales via the amazing Ribblehead Vuaduct or north to Carlisle our great Border City... and even onwards for day trips to Edinburgh & Glasgow.

By car we are 30 minutes to Ullswater, nearest lake, 5 minutes to Dufton on the Pennine Way and High Cup Nick, one of Julia Bradbury`s "greatest walks" our own mini Grand Canyon.

We are lucky to live in a very central position for visiting so many wonderful places, the Lake District & Yorkshire Dales National Parks, the North Pennines AONB, York, Edinburgh, the Lancashire & Solway coasts, and at the end of the day relax in the peace & quiet of our comfy home and garden with wonderful panoramic views of the Pennines.
