Stylish penthouse with stunning 360 degree views over Poole harbour
We live in a spacious 9th floor penthouse flat on the edge of Poole harbour with panoramic views over Sandbanks, Brownsea Island, Old Harry Rocks, Corfe Castle and the Purbecks, Poole harbour, Poole quay and town and much more. With large expanses of water on all four sides of the flat - we are a bit like an island in the sky! The apartment is filled with art, light and modern comforts and is a truly uplifting place to be.
We have a parking space in a secure underground carpark adjacent to the lift which will take you to the 9th floor on which, ours is the only apartment. As the lift doors open you are immediately greeted by large windows overlooking Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island. The flat has an interesting layout with a diagonally positioned corridor creating some unusual room shapes.
The open plan living/dining room has two sofas and a large dining table with space for eight people. Sebastian loves cooking so the kitchen is well equipped with fully integrated appliances and a large selection of herbs and spices etc - you will be welcome to use anything in the cupboards.
There are three good sized double bedrooms, one of which has an en-suite shower room. One of the spare bedrooms also houses a new upright piano. There is a good sized family bathroom and two balconies that wrap around two sides of the apartment. We spend hours just watching the dinghies, sailing yachts and ships roaming the harbour.
The front door to the building is approached through beautifully kept gardens at the end of a cul-de-sac. It is tucked away from the main part of the town but only ten minutes` walk away from the centre and train station and just three minutes from a supermarket.
About the location
We live in the centre of Poole, a few minutes walk from the edge of the harbour in one direction and the town centre, shops, theatre, and restaurants in another.
Poole harbour is the second largest natural harbour in the world, and to our mind, the most beautiful, with stunning beaches, islands and inlets to explore by ferry, kayak or paddle-board.
We are at the top of a modern development that is beautifully landscaped with communal gardens through which one walks to reach the water`s edge. In another direction there are three very large parks including 110 acre Poole Park arranged around a large boating lake with ducks and swans, free outdoor exercise equipment, a children`s adventure playground, café and public tennis courts. Adjacent to this are Baiter and Whitecliff Harbourside Parks, again with another amazing free adventure playground for children and picnic areas. With no cars, the whole area is perfect for safe cycling, running, and a range of sports. We have five bikes that we can lend you to explore the many miles of harbourside cycle paths.
A fifteen minute cycle ride away is blue-flag Sandbanks Beach, our favourite place to swim. From here you can walk or cycle in one direction along the promenade to Bournemouth and visit the Russel Cotes museum etc, or in the other direction, take the chain ferry which departs every 20 minutes and visit Studland beach or cycle the hundreds of miles of beautiful nature reserve, woodland, and heathland tracks around the southern parts of Poole harbour. The old town centre of Poole itself is picturesque with narrow cobbled streets and Georgian mansions built with wealth from Newfoundland trade. There are dozens of restaurants and pubs to explore in this area.
If you take the car over the chain ferry, the whole of Purbeck is on your doorstep, including Swanage, Corfe Castle, Kimmeridge Bay, Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door. There are idyllic Dorset villages to discover and more things to see and do than there is space to write here.
We also have a flat in Swanage which we let out on airbnb and which may also be available at times. See - https://airbnb.com/h/sebandlisas-getaway
We are keen sailors and own a 32 foot Beneteau Oceanis, so could show you around Poole Harbour if we were doing an overlapping or non-simultaneous swap. There all sorts of water-sport centres in the harbour offering training or hire in every imaginable water based activity from wind-surfing to sea fishing to jet ski rides.
Across the road from us is the Dolphin/Everyone active sports centre with a 25 metre swimming pool and gym, and next to this is the Lighthouse Arts Centre comprising several theatres, a cinema, art gallery, bars and a huge concert auditorium that hosts internationally famous musicians and is home of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.
Boat and ferry trip companies based at Poole Quay offer a large range of tours around the harbour and to places like Swanage and Wareham. One of these tours is to Brownsea Island where the scout and girl guide movements were established. These days the island is famous for birdwatching, the rare red squirrel, as well as other wildlife, and the open air theatre which shows plays by Shakespeare in the summer.
