Lummi Island home

We are a retired couple living on a beautiful Pacific Northwest island located near the US/Canadian border between Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA. Our 25-year-old waterfront home is located near the Lummi Island ferry dock providing easy access to Bellingham (20 min), Vancouver (60min), Victoria and Seattle (2hrs). Snow capped Mt. Baker can be viewed across Hales Passage from nearly all rooms especially from the comfortable conservatory and master bedroom. The sunrise is magnificent. Our well maintained home comfortably sleeps four, with an additional occasional room available, and is equipped with a good, varied library and CD collection and cable TV. We have a private beach and access to a beach walk.

About the location

Bellingham is a medium sized university town located on Bellingham Bay some 20minutes from the Canadian border. The bay adjoins the Salish sea which stretches north from Puget sound to north Vancouver Island and encompasses a hundred or so islands including the San Juan Islands and the Canadian gulf Islands, all part of the same archipelago. Lummi Island is the island closest to Bellingham and is accessed from the Lummi Reservation by a 20 car ferry operating regularly during the day and evening.
The Island is about 10 miles by 2 miles and has an permanent population of about 1000 increasing to about 1600 summer holiday weekends. The island is very rural in nature, has a small store, post office, cafe/restaurant and the Willows Inn, currently a popular spot for the very rich. We have some lovely walks and bicycling roads, access to excellent kayaking and boating, and much local sea foods. Further afield are superb hiking in the Cascade mountains, boating through the San Juan islands, lovely drives into the countryside and mountains, visits to Vancouver and/or Seattle, ferry to Victoria, or even crossing the mountains to the dryer side of Washington.
