Quiet city location. Walk everywhere. A1 motorway 2 mins, (Scotland to Penzance via Lon) mainline train station 20 mins walk

Hi, I’m Jo. A retired academic. I have two responsible adult sons who may or may not travel with me. My house is in a quiet small private estate in close proximity to river side walks, shops, transport etc. We are looking for any stay, weekends, weeks, months - anywhere in the U.K. or abroad. The area is steep i Roman, Viking, Saxon, Norman, history as well as being the most important area for the onset of Christianity (Lindisfarne). We are a world UNESCO site, Historic 11thC Cathedral and Castle fifteen mins walk. Easy transport to London 2.45 mins, Edinburgh 1.40hrs York 40 mins and a drive to the National Lake District Park 1.5hrs. We are surrounded by the most beautiful countryside with hidden castles, tucked away historical Halls etc. Twenty minutes drive will take you to the coast. The further north you drive the more beautiful the coastline becomes. We have many castles within a short drive. A five minute walk from the house and you are at the riverside and countryside, another five in the centre of town. We are looking for a very clean house swap with similar professionals. car swap possible. Our dates, destinations and durations are entirely flexible. We have swapped before in Lake Tahoe for three weeks and in the UK in the south - all positive experiences.

About the location

Although Durham is a city it’s really a small town. People are friendly and the city is ideally placed for travel to any part of the country as its on the mainline which runs from Aberdeen in Scotland to Penzance in Cornwall calling at London Kings Cross. Services are frequent in the hour. It's a beautiful area and offers a 'real' england experience than one in the capital city which can often be similar to any large city. Durham University is the third oldest University in the Country and is 8th in World ranking (at the time of writing). The Cathedral is important to the onset of Christianity in the UK - The Venerable Bede is buried in the Cathedral. Durham County was once run by 'Prince Bishops' and was the epicentre of the country. Oh and I have an electric bike for use.
