A traditional 3-storey village house built in 1881 with a roof-terrace

Our home is a traditional stone-built house close to the centre of a lively large village in the valley of the River Agly. We are about 22kms north-west of Perpignan; it takes 20 minutes to drive to Perpignan Airport, half an hour to the city centre.
The fully-fitted kitchen and the dining-room are both on the ground floor. French windows lead into a shady private courtyard.
The bathroom ( with both a bath and a shower) and master bedroom are on the middle floor while the study/ second bedroom and roof-terrace (suitable for al fresco dining) are on the top floor. There is also a drinks fridge, a washing-machine and a washbasin on the top floor.
For variations in the weather there is an overhead fan above the dining table and a heat pump to cool or warm or dehumidify the ground floor and the master bedroom.
Two mountain bikes are available.

It is three three minutes walk to the village centre which has a brasserie, two bars, a pizzeria, a kebab place, two bakeries, a supermarket, a flower shop....... plus open-air markets on Mondays and Fridays in the charming shady market place by the river.

Estagel is ` en fete ` for three days from 29/08 to 01/09 every year.
There is a bus service to Perpignan from Monday-Saturday all year and a tourist train for explorations of the Agly Valley in the summer. Ideal for walking and cycling holidays.

About the location

Perpignan is a 30-minute drive from our house. The city has a free music and street theatre festival called the ` Jeudis de Perpignan ` from mid-July to late August. Opportunities for walking abound in the Fenouillledes and Corbieres foothills of the Pyrennees. The Meditteranean beaches can be reached in about 45 minutes drive. Our nearest airport is at Perpignan. There are also flights from the UK to Beziers,
Carcassonne and Girona in Spain which are all about two hours drive away.
The Cathar castle of Queribus can be seen from the roof-terrace. It is a good place to join the Sentier de Cathars walking trail which links all the major Cathar fortifications.
